The upcoming Bretton Place project is a 31-story residential rental tower that will be added to an existing complex – a 629-unit, two tower apartment complex built in the 1960’s located in a Toronto neighbourhood at Yonge Street & St. Clair Avenue.
To facilitate the new structure on ground floor level and above, the design required us to rehabilitate 10 columns from footings of Parking Level 2 to ground floor. The existing columns were demolished using hydrodemolition, whereby the surface concrete was removed to the depth of the existing rebar, and subsequently rebuilt to new specifications, expanding the rebar density with a new thicker jacket of concrete.
Along with the column rehabilitation, the design called for underpinning and expansion of the existing footings required to take the full anticipated loads of the new pavilion structure and pools.
